Compared
to other antidepressants such as St. John's Wart which can take weeks to notice
improvement, CELLFOOD® SAM-e users often experience great improvement within
days.
Do
not use any brand of SAM-e if you have been diagnosed with bipolar disease, as with many
antidepressant drugs.
Osteoarthritis
- a
condition which hits nearly 21 million Americans according to the National
Institutes of Health. There are over 100 arthritic conditions, of which
osteoarthritis is the most prevalent, and "affects nearly 10 percent of the
population over age 60", according to Taber's Cyclopedic Medical
Dictionary.
Osteoarthritis
is different from rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune
disease resulting in overgrown lining of the tissues, thickening, and invasion
of the cartilage and even bones.
Osteoarthritis is a
degenerative joint disease. SAM-e is necessary for the manufacture of
sulfur-containing cartilage compounds. SAM-e directly enhances the action of
cartilage cell metabolism, creating a powerful joint health compound. One of the
most important benefits of SAM-e in comparison to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) is the lack of negative side effects with SAM-e. NSAIDs side
effects are directly linked to ulcers, gastrointestinal disorders, and kidney
and liver damage among many other unwanted effects. SAM-e is a natural component
of the body, but diminishes with age, like so many other aging properties of the
human body. According to research evaluation, supplemental SAM-e has been noted
as follows: (Am J Med 83 [5A]:60-65, Nov 1987)

SAM-e vs.
ibuprofen - In this double blind study, 36 patients with osteoarthritis of
the knee, hip and/or spine were given 1,200 mg. of SAMe or 1,200 mg. of
ibuprofen. SAMe performed equally as well as ibuprofen. |
|
| |
 | SAM-e vs,
piroxicam - 45 patients completed this double-blind, randomized, 12-week
trial comparing 1,200 mg of SAMe daily with 20 mg of piroxicam (an
anti-inflammatory pain reliever) daily. Both treatments proved effective in
reducing total pain scores. However, the patients treated with SAMe
maintained clinical improvement longer than patients receiving piroxicam.

 | SAM-e vs.
naproxen - This double-blind, multi-center study featured 734 participants, 582 with hip or knee osteoarthritis. While both SAM-e and naproxen (i.e.,
type of NSAID) performed significantly better than a placebo, tolerability
of SAM-e was significantly better than naproxen. |

In
addition to the lack of side-effects with SAM-e, SAM-e has a very strong safety
record, has been shown to protect the stomach lining, and can rebuild the
cartilage matrix while it diminishes pain. Before using NSAIDs, SAM-e should be
a sought after therapy for Osteoarthritis.
Other
area's SAM-e is showing promising therapeutic effects:
Fibromyalgia
* Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Epstein Barr * Liver disorders
(increases glutathione
levels which have shown to protect the liver) restoring normal liver function in
the presence of various liver diseases including alcoholic and non-alcoholic
cirrhosis and estrogen-induced cholestasis. Prevents and reverses liver toxicity
from drug and chemical usage or absorption.
"One
of the greatest risks of chronic liver diseases, such as chronic hepatitis is
liver cancer," explain Dr. Murray. "Supplementation with SAM-e
is very much indicated in patients with these diseases in order to reduce the
risk of liver cancer."
Anti-aging
- According to Elson Haas, M.D., glutathione
"is a key protector from the potential damage by wastes and toxins and is
effective in preventing aging." SAM-e increases glutathione levels more
effectively than glutathione supplements. Glutathione keeps the red blood cells
strong, while it transports nutrients to immune cells.
