SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SEVEN DAY DIET – HEART DIET

This diet is safe with any prescribed heart medications. Continue the plan as long as you wish. It is used for very overweight and heart patients who need to lose weight rapidly before surgery. Please read the entire page, so you shop wisely before starting this program.

DAY 1

All fruits. Your first day will consist of all the fruits you want to eat.

Exclude banana’s, they are far too high in sugars. Cantaloupes and watermelons are lower in calories – (be prepared to urinate several times per day if eating watermelon)! Eat only your soup and fruits the first day. For drinks, use unsweetened tea, cranberry juice (recipe for homemade below) and water.

                                                        DAY 2            

All vegetables. Fresh, raw, frozen or canned. Eat green leafy vegetables and stay away from beans, peas and corn. Eat all with your soup. At dinnertime on this day reward yourself with a big baked potato, white or a Yam (which I prefer). Eat all the soup you want, but no fruit.

                           DAY 3

Mix day 1 and day 2. Eat all the soup, fruit and vegetables you want, but no baked potato.

(If you have eaten for three days as above and not cheated, you may have lost 5-7 pounds)

      DAY 4

 Banana’s or cantaloupes and skimmed milk. Eat as many as three bananas or 1 cantaloupe, and drink as many glasses of skimmed milk as you can on this day. Banana’s are high in carbohydrates and potassium, cantaloupe is higher in potassium, skim milk is high in carbohydrates and calories, which you will need all of these on this day. You need protein and calcium in the skim milk to lessen your craving for sweets.

                        DAY 5

 Beef and tomatoes. You may eat 10-20 ounces of beef and a lg. can of tomatoes, (try a Salisbury steak dish using spray oil to brown your meat first) or as many as six fresh tomatoes on this day to wash away the uric acid in your body. Eat your soup at least once on this day.

                       DAY 6

 Low-fat beef and vegetables, eat till your hearts content of fruit and vegetables on this day. You can even have 2 to 3 steaks if you like with green leafy vegetables. No baked potato. Be sure to eat your soup at least once.

                      DAY 7 

Brown rice, unsweetened juice and vegetables. Again stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to eat your soup at least once. If you have not cheated on the above diet, you will have lost at least 10 to 17 pounds. If you have lost more than 15 pounds stay off the diet for two days before resuming. 

 

This seven day diet plan can be used as often as you need. If correctly followed it will clean your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being as never before.

After six days of this process, you may begin to feel lighter by at least 10 and probably 17 pounds and have an abundance of energy. Continue this plan as long as you wish and feel the difference.

You must be off the diet for 24 hours before drinking any alcoholic beverages. If not, you are putting an incredible stress on your liver.

Because everyone’s digestive system is different, this diet will affect everyone differently. After day three you will have more energy than when you began if you do not cheat. After being on the diet for several days, if you find your bowel movement has changed, eat one tablespoon of oat bran or such fiber and lots of water, or one teaspoon of Guar Gum, and at least 64 ounces, (8-8 oz. glasses) throughout the day. Although, you may have black coffee, you may find that you don’t need the stimulant after the third day.

NO, NO, NO’S . . . NO BREADS, NO FRIED FOODS, NO ALCOHOL, AND NO CARBONATED BEVERAGES . . . Stick with water, unsweetened green-tea, black coffee,  fruit juices, (cranberry juice) and skimmed milk.

The fat burning soup can be eaten anytime you feel hungry. Eat as much soup as you want and as often as you like. The more soup you eat the more you lose, since it requires more calories to digest than what you consume! You may eat broiled or baked chicken (no skin) instead of beef. Fish may be substituted for beef on only one of the beef days. You need the high protein in the beef on the other days.

BASIC FAT BURNING SOUP

6 GREEN ONIONS

2 BELL PEPPERS

1 BUNCH (whole stalk) OF CELERY

1 LARGE HEAD OF CABBAGE

2 LARGE CANS OF PEELED AND CHOPPED TOMATOES

1 PACKAGE ONION SOUP MIX

3 CHICKEN OR BEEF BOUILLON CUBES (1 tbls. of paste will do also)

DASH POULTRY SEASONING (IF USING CHICKEN BOUILLON)

One 8 qt. or larger Stock pot. Put in tomatoes, seasonings, chopped veggies (in bite size pieces), cover with water and stir. Boil fast for 10 minutes, then reduce heat, cover and simmer until tender. Season to taste. Put in bowls and allow to cool before refrigerating.

This will last one person approx. 6 – 7 days, or two people, three days, if eating a bowl at least 2-3 times per day.

Drink lots of water, at least ½ a gallon per day to increase cleansing and fat loss process. In the beginning you may feel or become bloated, especially if you are not a water drinker. But within the week you will flush the water and balance out.

This diet is at least 15 years old. It has been known also as the Scarsdale diet, among several other names. Since then, some very helpful research has surfaced, and incorporated with this diet, can increase the health and weight loss of the individual who is on it. Below are some variances I have incorporated into this diet. BACK TO CELLFOOD DIET

To diet and lose weight, then keep it off, without increasing your metabolism with exercise, is achievable only for the lucky few. Most people gain weight because they are not burning what they consume. So you either consume far less, or make your incinerator hotter. This is your metabolism. Those with high metabolism's seem to eat anything and never worry about weight gain.

A word on weightlifting: Lifting weights will help you to burn fat off fast by increasing your metabolism, and burning excess calories, not just during the exercise, but all day long, even while you sleep! Each new pound of lean muscle may raise your metabolism by as many as 50 calories a day. So, not only do you look more musculature, but you are adding firmness and shape, building bone density, stimulating bone-cell development, helping to prevent osteoporosis, and strengthening muscle and connective tissues that protect the bones that keep you balanced and supple. L-Carnitine is an amino acid that assists the body in maintaining muscle while burning fat storage.

It took several months to gain the weight. With patience and sticking to this new eating regime, you will lose the weight, faster, but not overnight. With this program you will lose weight, clean out your system, overcome high sugar/carbohydrate cravings and become younger on a cellular level and more attractive physically! You will add years of longevity with the health and fitness to enjoy it.

I also recommend CELLFOOD® SILICA to maintain skin integrity. The Silica helps us to maintain the elasticity in our skin, vascular system and all organs. Below I am listing some excellent high-fiber, fat flushing foods to consider as your vegetables or fruits while dieting, or simply to maintain weight and healthfulness:

These are high-fiber, low-sugar fruits and vegetables, unlike banana’s and carrots, which have so much sugar content they actually promote fat storage and high levels of glucose production, which create the yo-yo effect in insulin production that taxes the pancreas:

Apples, asparagus, cabbage, spinach, bamboo shoots, beets, bell peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, celery (also a heart nutrient), Chinese cabbage, cucumbers, eggplant, escarole, grapes (an excellent picnogenol), grapefruit, green beans, lettuces (the greener the better), melon, mushrooms, okra, onions, oranges, parsley (excellent calcium source and purifier), pears, pears, plums, radishes, squash, strawberries, tomatoes, watercress, zucchini, yellow squash, water chestnuts. Celery is another food that requires more calories to digest than what is in it, so eat all you want.

PLUS SOME HEALTHFUL ADDITIONS . . .

EGGS – this food contains the highest level of sulphur-bearing amino acids required by the liver to break down fats. If you put raw eggs in a blender, supplement with Biotin at a different meal. Raw eggs deplete the Biotin storage in your body or diet. Raw egg whites contain a protein called avidin, which combines with Biotin in the intestinal tract and depletes it. Biotin is essential for healthy skin, hair and nails, and promotes healthy sweat glands, nerve tissue and bone marrow.

Two grocery store eggs a day is safe even for a cholesterol watching diet. But farm fresh eggs which avoid steroids, hormones and pesticides, and are fertilized, are safer and have a completely synergistic blend naturally within themselves to help keep your cholesterol balanced anyway. These can be purchased at the organic section of your grocery store, a health food store, or cheaper yet in a Farm and Ranch feed store for about a dollar a dozen. Always wash eggs when you bring them home, or sit in a bowl of cold water with 15 drops of Cellfood 1 oz. for a few minutes. Cellfood will kill any pathogens or bacteria the outer shells may have come in contact with.

LEAN RED MEAT – Our best source of l-Carnitine (other than CELLFOOD® DIET), a nutrient that ushers fat into muscle cells to be incinerated. There you achieve optimal fat burning! Supplement with Cellfood Diet on those non-red meat days.

OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS – THE ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS - I have always believed that our body needs lubricating. Some healthy oils are actually essential to consume for optimal heart, vascular and elimination functioning, but also assist you in weight loss! These are the Omega-3 Fatty acids 'Essential Oils'. My favorite brand is "The Total EFA", a complete blend found easily in your local health food store. The linoleic acid in this blend also helps raise your metabolic rate, balance body fat and step up production of lean muscle mass. Keep refrigerated though, they become rancid at room temperature. Also, Flaxseed oil, the "good fat", is an excellent choice in salad dressings and cooking.  Foods rich in the Omega-3’s which also help prevent obesity are; Salmon, Walnuts and Olive Oil. "Five servings a week are recommended" - "Omega-3’s balance the body chemicals, making it easier to get rid of fat", says nutritionist Oz Garcia, author of The Balance: Your Personal Prescription for Super-metabolism. Walnuts are also excellent in providing energy, is a brain food and amazingly resemble a brain. That’s a whole different subject though.

CRANBERRY JUICE, Black Cherry Juice - Contains several enzymes that aren’t found in any other foods, and contains the enzymes needed to aid in the digestion of fat. 8 ounces upon rising and bed is the recommended daily intake. Homemade Cranberry Juice: To avoid the sugars added in commercial brands, bring 5 cups of water and I pound of cranberries to a boil, then when the berries pop, strain them. You may add grape-juice concentrate for sweetness, or Stevia, an herbal sweetener safe for diabetics and far healthier than Equal or Sweet-n-Low. Stevia will also lower yeast levels in the body, helping to keep it under control.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR – I prefer the vinegar found only in health foods stores, or the organic section of the grocery store, that contains "the Mother". "Bragg" is my favorite brand. If the "Mother" is not in it, you are missing out on the most beneficial nutrients and enzymes that the vinegar offers! Acetic Acid, the main ingredient in vinegar, has been proven to stimulate metabolism, besides providing you with tens of nutrients from sulphur to calcium, that aid in eliminating fat, and creates a chemical balance in the body that is ideal for weight loss! One cup of hot water with a teaspoon of honey, then when it is cooled down enough not to kill the enzymes in the vinegar (lower than 126 degrees) add one teaspoon to one tablespoon of vinegar then drink. This is an excellent tonic to regulate your system and give you a jumpstart in your day, without causing a nauseous stomach. Excellent for before bed also with your CELLFOOD® DIET dosage.

GREEN TEA – Green Tea and Green Tea extract has been proven to increase fat burning in a process that stimulates BAT – (brown adipose tissue) thermogenesis, as well as fat oxidation, through its effect on the sympathetic nervous system (Dulloo 1999). As for the caffeine? Research shows that the synergy of Green Tea’s components modify each other. They interact with each other, such as the polyphenols (excellent for cancer prevention) and caffeine, so it can be enjoyed without any harmful side effects. I always suggest an organic source, to avoid the pesticides in growing plus chlorination of the tea bags themselves.

WHEAT ALLERGIES – Without knowing, you may be allergic to wheat, causing you to retain excess fluids or false fat. Try substituting wheat for wheat free alternatives, and see if this makes a difference in your weight within a few days. Also, wheat gluten acts like sludge, slowing the metabolism and making fat stick. Unfortunately, our source of wheat is not like it was a few hundred years ago. The good components it once had, have been basically hi-bred and processed out of it.

 I firmly believe that incorporating a heart and body smart diet, by adding the CELLFOOD® DIET product, will result in the fast weight loss everyone wants to achieve.  L-Carnitine (in Cellfood Diet) has been shown to increase cellular metabolism of fat by transferring fatty acids to sources of energy. **Something to keep in mind; raw vegetables are a good source of fiber, yet many of the nutrients cannot be absorbed in digestion, because the high fiber content disallows proper nutrient assimilation through incomplete digestion. Spinach is one of these vegetables (a favorite salad for dieters, but should actually stick with lettuce). When in doubt, partially steaming vegetables assists in the breakdown of the fiber which in turn assists delivery of nutrients, the same as eating yogurt and cottage cheese assists in the absorption of the calcium, because part of the digestive process has been done previous to consuming. This makes it easier for the body to assimilate the nutrients contained in these foods.

Overly cooking any foods will deplete the nutrient content, but certain foods must be thoroughly cooked, as in pork.

I am a strong advocate against microwaving any foods. This form of cooking causes the molecules to cook more thoroughly within the food at higher levels of heat. It is much easier to destroy all nutrient content in the food through microwaving. It only takes 128 degrees to destroy most the valuable enzymes in food, which are needed for proper digestive support and nutrient assimilation. (A cup of coffee at the drive through is usually 150 degrees).
